So I’ve been sketching the cartoon’y faces in *gasp* a real paper sketchbook when bored. And thought hey, I wonder what I’d really like better – a digital painting version of this sketch. like I usually do them in Twisted Brush or vector based from Anime Studio (I still need to learn this program properly). Still playing around with both versions but here you go, the results so far:

The original sketch of the face, yeah it’s small. I draw tons of faces all over the page unless I think something is good, then I try a big version on its own, which is rare. Otherwise it’s just lots of small faces, half faces, eyes, lips, whatever… just practice stuff.

The sketch taken into Anime Studio and drawn over using that vector styled graphics program.

The sketch taken into Twisted Brush and redrawn over using digital pencils and paints.

My mommy person bought me these awhile ago:

She bought them because you can use them on fabric, then seal them in. Her quilting art list folk love them.

I figured I’d start with testing them out on paper. But I don’t even like wasting my cheaper colored pencils. And I’m such an art n00b that I’m trying to decide what to do with them. Another cartoon’y girl… or try to practice and branch out into something new. In the mean time, they’re sitting in their pretty tin staring me in the face like “Hi, gonna use us yet?”. Argh. Need inspiration.

So I do use my sketchbooks. They’re a mess of course as I mostly just doodle stuff like practice cartoon’y eyes and half faces. Tons of stuff like that, multiple things like that one one page. Often overlapping each other on a page. I’m a freak. But I figured I’d take pics of a few of those things that you can still identify in those messes and post them here.

Just a random cartoon't guy sketch

I could swear I posted this guy before, maybe I just planned to because I had been digitizing him. Maybe I’ll post that wip version too. Just some random BatBoy that also looked kind of Werewolf’y to me. I dunno wtf he is really, I just drew and that’s what he became.

Yeah, here he is. Still in progress though he has been forever, so maybe he’ll never be done, can’t figure out what to do with him.

No, I can’t draw from reference pics yet, obviously. And I should use a ruler or something instead of trying to draw lines on my own ;) But this is based on one of the CA missions. LaPurisma maybe? I forget now.

Really bad sketch based on one of the Missions

This was going to be a faerie but as usual I just used the page to draw all kinds of random eyes, half faces, etc. So this is really all I have of her.

I still had the face I used as the basis for some other digital thing in a sketch book, so I turned it into this.  I ran out of black pens and Dutchie the Cat was an art critic and walked all over it and smeared some of the pencils, I’ll assume she liked it in the end as she cuddled up on it before I came back in the room and kicked her off it it… So I left some of it as the original pens and pencils and redid the rest digitally in TwistedBrush.

Animation: Anime Studio pro (their background, rain, etc)
Bot: Mine – pencil, pens, photoshop

So I finished up the Engel chick from the Engel Watching Mike Video ArtLog.  Now clearly I haven’t worked on bodies at all and then Brian said she needed a background too! Eeek!  So this is what she gets.  And she keeps the name Engel Watching Mike since that’s the Video ArtLog she is from.

Made with: Pencil, pen, TwistedBrush Pro, Photoshop

My friend Mike liked the last one, so I decided to dedicate this one to him when I saw the finished angel engel chick with a less than happy look on her face…. I have to watch Mike a lot so it looked like a look I’d give him ;)    My books on poses came but haven’t had the energy do really get serious about making new art so these still have no bodies, hopefully something better and less silly soon’ish.  But, we know how I slack ;) I’m not posting the pics in this video separately because well they may or not be done. They still seem like works in progress to me, though who knows I may never touch them again.
