Ok I did mom’s self portrait thing already! Yeah I was quick for once. As I was working on it Brian said it resembled Karina (he hadn’t seen the latest picture of me so I showed that to him too). I reminded him Karina IS my sister. He told me he realized that but he’d never noticed a resemblance before. We do have different dads but how could he not notice any resemblance? Mom’s genes are super strong, I’m not sure that physically there is any of my dad showing in me at all, heh. Anyway, I’ll take it as a compliment, my sister is pretty.
Now I’ve decided I need another new project. Still can’t get the Misi one right, argh I’ve given myself until Christmas to finish it at least. Even though I’ve no desire to run off to see the Twilight Movie when it comes out (I do want to see it when it comes out on dvd to see what they do with it and because I am a little curious — just not curious enough to have Brian kill me which is what he’d do if I were to drag him to the theater for a teenage vampire love story) I do like some of the posters for the movie from an artistic standpoint, the colouring etc. I showed them to Brian and told him I think I want to do digital paintings of them next due to the limited colours. He said he couldn’t do it. Hmm and here I thought my art is “cheating” Now I’m challenged. So that’s my next project. Mr. gets paid to do art for a living can’t do it? And I think it’s cheating… I started one, it is actually hard to do. I’m not trying to recreate the poster image exactly. I’ve given up on pretending I can even attempt photo realism, etc…. Just going for my style. But… yeah. Now I know why Brian said he can’t do it, it’s a bitch.

My mommy has decided it’s self portrait art time!
Her LJ post is here no vox cross post on this one so far.
My paper art skills aren’t as good as my digital not to mention I have no easy way to reference myself short of standing in front of a mirror all day to attempt to draw / paint myself, so I made her change her rules to allow digital and other forms of art. No contest, etc. She’s just inviting everyone to join in for fun. Feel free to join in.

She started out as just a face on a random digital doodle page, I liked her face so I decided to turn her into more but eh my drawing skills suck still so I decided to attempt to draw a comic book’y simple skyline behind her then well everything else between that and her was still plain, so I jut added darker paint directly behind her and decided it looked kind of like a balcony so now she’s got a city view — or something.
Brian is a genius, good thing it’s too early or late or whatever, my sarcasm filters were too slow to respond when he told me that he likes it but that it looks a little too monochromatic. Sadly he had left for work by the time I realized that I should have made some sort of comment about how that was probably because I made a conscious choice to use only a few colours on this one. He also asked me “Is that Lydia?” again I was slow, “Who the hell is Lydia?”, I asked. He reminded me that we’ve just recently watched Beetlejuice and he thinks this girl looks a little like her. Nope! I’d had that face doodled a day or two before then, and I don’t see it myself, but if he does I’ll take it as a compliment.

New banner for my LJ, as the last one wasn’t quite sitting right with me. Now I’m thinking I should start making more banners! Small graphics gives me an excuse for sticking to faces since I suck at drawing even cartoon’y bodies, heh. Then again I like her so much I MIGHT try to expand this image when I’m feeling better.

She has strong opinions, do you? This actually was going to be a bit more of the women aren’t stupid we have brains theme, since I’m still bitter about how women have been treated during this election. But… Eh it decided it wanted to go in this direction so there you go. It also wanted me to write the lettering instead of using fonts so have fun reading my messy writing but be glad I printed instead of using my handwriting. As always, clicking on image = full sized.
